An introduction to the history and analysis of screen media, with an emphasis on film (feature films, documentaries, animation, and experimental) together with an examination of ways cinematic techniques of storytelling do and do not find their ways into later media like television and video games. Lectures and discussions supplemented by theoretical readings and weekly screenings.
This was my first exposure to film studies and I learned a lot, both about film and writing analytical papers. I was also challenged, having never studied film in an academic environment, but I enjoyed learning new ways to look at film and television. We covered a lot of ground, and I learned all the basic categories and theories that I hope to build upon as I continue my film studies.
